"LET ME SERVE YOU..."
The Lord has been bringing back something He told us many years ago. "Let Me serve you..." This to me is an amazing statement by the Son of the Living God.
As I spend time pondering this, I begin to realize that even though I cannot see my Lord Jesus in this realm, He has never stopped serving. While He was here on His earth, as Father's Messenger and Sacrifice to purchase our lives back from satan and reconcile us back into our original relationship with God, He was always serving His Father and out of that constant service to Him, Jesus served all of mankind. What is the bottom line to this in my daily life? As I allow Jesus to serve me, I am serving Him.
What Is Service?
John 6:28, 29 tells us what Jesus taught about service. "They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?] Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His messenger]." The Amplified Bible As humans, our natural tendency is to gloss over this with an "Ok, I can do that. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and I have faith in Him as my Savior and Lord." And this is where most of us are until our Father, through the Holy Spirit, in His great Faithfulness and Grace, begins to teach us that there is a lot more meaning to these words than we have ever imagined. The bottom line to this scripture is this: I (Jesus) want you to let Me have My complete way with you in every situation and circumstance. In other words I (Jesus) want you to get out of My way and let me show you all that I am and all that you are not.
Peter, one of Jesus' closest disciples, is a perfect example. On the night that Jesus was going to be betrayed, He had His last meal with the disciples. During that meal, Jesus washed the disciples feet and gave them a demonstration of service to Himself and each other. Peter did not want to let His Master wash his feet. He felt that it was beneath Jesus to do such a common chore usually performed by servants. At first Peter refused His Lord but then Jesus said something to Peter that changed his mind. To paraphrase: If you do not let me wash your feet Peter, then you cannot have any part of Me. That's all it took. Peter then asked His Lord to wash his feet and all of the rest of him. John 13:5-8 Peter did not understand all that Jesus meant by this, but he did understand enough to know that he (Peter) certainly wanted to be a part of Jesus' life.
In effect, Jesus was saying to Peter, to all of them and to all of His disciples since that time, to look at it this way: If I (your name), Jesus' disciple, do not let Him serve me, then I am not being humble and submitted to Him and what He wants. I am not trusting Him, relying on Him, cleaving to Him like He has instructed me to do in His word.
So, What's Stopping Me?
It is my flesh that is hostile to Jesus' serving me. My natural mind, emotions and will tell me that Jesus is not supposed to serve me, I am to always serve Him. It sounds right because it sounds righteous. But it is, in fact, disobedience to what God wants.
Who Did Jesus Serve?
In John 13:16 Jesus gives us a bottom line to this question. "I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, A servant is not greater than his master, and no one who is sent is superior to the one who sent him." The Amplified Bible Jesus came to Earth as the Son of Man and the Son of God. He was both. Jesus was a human being who served mankind by serving His Father in everything He did and said. In John 15:10b Jesus clearly tells us who He obeys. "...just as I have obeyed My Father's commandments and live on in His love." It is His Father and only His Father. In John 15:5 Jesus tells the disciples the following: "...However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing." In John 5:19 Jesus states emphatically: "...the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [in His turn]." The Amplified Bible
Jesus served the Father by trusting Him, teaching only what the Father taught Him, doing in His own daily life what the Father did. In short, Jesus lived out John 6:29. Jesus cleaved to, trusted in, relied on and had faith in the One who had sent Him. We are in our turn to do the same in our faith and trust in Jesus, the One the Father has sent to us. Jesus was totally dependent on the Father for everything and He wants us to learn to be totally dependent on Him for everything. Jesus was at home and happy in His submitted position with His Father. That was the place that God the Father had Him in and that is the place...position...in which He always stayed. We are to be happy in our submitted position in Christ also.
That is how we serve You, Lord. By letting...allowing...You to serve us. We are serving You, Lord Jesus, when we allow You to have Your full and complete way in us, just as the Father had His full and complete way in You. You were "...obedient unto death." Phil. 2:8 King James Version
Another Example
The following is a paraphrase from Oswald Chambers'---My Utmost for His Highest, Feb. 23
"The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve." Matt. 20:28 The main spring of service for Paul was Jesus--not man. Paul loved Jesus and allowed Him to pour Himself through him and serve men. Paul served God by trusting every part of his daily life to Jesus, so that Jesus' Life could come out of Paul’s obedience and serve the people that God brought to Jesus through His vessel Paul. We all need to come to the point that we see...recognize..."...that Jesus has served all of us to the end of our own meanness, our selfishness, and sin..." There is nothing that any man can do to me that I have not already done to Jesus, only worse. We do not like to think about this. Actually, our natural self--the part of me that wants to serve me--will do everything possible to keep us from spending any time thinking...period!
Let's Get Honest
I am either allowing Jesus to build His House, His dwelling place, in me by trusting Him with all of me and all that happens to me, or I am building my own (self) house which is filled with darkness, death and has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus. John 3:19 tells us: "And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil." Only Jesus can build His House and only I (self) can build my house. If Jesus is about building His House in me, it means: the faithful servant follows the Master who is the Perfect Servant to His Father. This is True Humility. Only Jesus can make man whole by serving Him with the Redemption and Salvation that is His and His alone to give.
God's Chosen People
"And they said to Moses, you speak to us and we will listen, but let not God speak to us, lest we die. And Moses said to the people, Fear not: for God has come to prove you, so that the [reverential] fear of Him may be before you, that you may not sin." Exodus 20:19, 20. The Amplified Bible
The people are willing to hear through Moses what God is saying to them, but they do not desire to hear from God directly---Divine Love. God's response through His servant Moses is this: You have nothing to fear from God. He has chosen this moment in your lives to prove you, so that the correct fear of Him will be placed into your hearts and that will keep you from sin. What was God doing? To prove is to test by trial, experience, suffering. Moses had already been through this experience with God at the burning bush. He recognized what God was doing through his own personal time with God. God often tests us by trial so that we will see for ourselves what He already knows. God knew that the people did not want to hear from Him directly because they were in darkness, i.e. self, and He wanted them to know it too. By seeing themselves exactly as God saw them and allowing God to give them the correct fear of Himself, God would be able to bring them to a place in Him that would keep them from sinning. This is revelation in Divine Love. But they chose to stay in the darkness. In verse 21 it tells us: "And the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near..."
Because the Hebrew People were the chosen ones of God, it was most important for God to give them this lesson and to bring all of the people, the entire nation, into this place where they would trust God completely for everything and not sin...rebel against Him in their lives. This proving is an experience that all of God's children must go through and once you have come into this place and seen the things you need to see about yourself and about the God of Israel, the true Fear of God will be ever before you to keep you from sin.
From The Bridegroom
"My beloved...I seek to serve you. Trust Me and I will serve you."
It is truly an awesome thing when the Beloved of God the Father seeks to serve you, one of His children. This word was given in September of 1987. Since that time the Lord Jesus has very carefully and painfully brought me to the place that I can bow and say, yes Lord, yes. He has been showing me and will continue to show me the importance of learning to serve Him by allowing Him to serve me. If I do not let Him serve me...wash my feet...I can have no part in Him.
The other key in this word is He specifically said that in order for this to completely come into perfect place, I must trust Him. When I put His word to work in my daily life by choosing to wait on Him, trust Him, lean on Him, as I have been instructed to do in John 6:28 & 29, then I can know for certain that I am in His will, that He is serving me and that I am coming deeper and deeper into Him and the Oneness that He died to give me and all of His children. This is indeed an awesome place.
Look At Current Events
Simply look at the daily happenings in your own life and know that God desires to prove you and give you every opportunity to learn to trust Him and to learn to trust the fact that He is God, the All Knowing God, in whom we can all find rest.
Bottom Line
There can be only 2 choices: either I allow Jesus to serve me, and I serve Him by putting my entire life into His hands or, I serve myself and move deeper and deeper into darkness and away from the Light. All people are truly making life (Jesus) and death (satan) decisions every moment of their lives.
Choice
I hope that your prayer will be: Come and serve us Lord Jesus down to the very last part in us that needs your touch and cleansing, love and grace, mercy and faithfulness and your great goodness as the Master Servant. Amen
Jesus served His Father by allowing Father to do everything through Him. We are to do the same.
If you do not know Jesus Christ, God the Father’s Only Begotten Son...Savior of the world, my prayer for you is that you will open up your heart and allow the refreshing breeze of His Holy Spirit to move through you and allow His voice to whisper to your heart...I died for you! Come into Me and find your true home...the place that you have been searching for up until this moment. The time is NOW!
